Our teaching and research division proposes a structure model of Ideal Filler(IF) and a general idea to design it based on years of research on reinforcing technology and theory for rubber.IF is applied in plastics reinforcing and rubber toughening in this project, with the purpose of getting better modification and analyzing the dispersion of IF under different conditions. IF used in our experiments are synthetic nanometer cross linked polystyrene (PS) microsphere and core-shell structure microsphere with PS as core and polyisoprene (PI) as shell. First, different composites are made from twin-screw extruding pelletizing of PS microsphere, styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) core-shell structure microsphere and polypropylene (PP) respectively and made into standard specimen by injection molding. The mechanical properties are also tested. Microstructure of those composites are examined by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). Second, PS microsphere is filled into styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), then the effect of different vulcanizing systems (e.g. peroxide cross linking and sulfur cross-linking) and heattreatment methods on the mechanical properties of SBR and the dispersion of IF is analyze. Results indicate that, under the same amount of filler, the dispersion of filler performs best in low temperature peroxide crosslinking system in the process of SBR modification, then the high temperature sulfuration of sulfur will easily lead filler PS to congregate. Heat treatment under high temperature with or without shear on miller can also make the filler disperse differently, and the performance of filler dispersion acts better after being treated by 150℃high temperature shear than treatment without shear.
