PROCAST software is hired to calculate the solidification process of spent-nuclear-fuel container, and the process improvement is explored. The results of Case-1 show that solidification time of spent-nuclear-fuel container is 84141s without adopting any forced cooling system. Solidification time is very long. The declining of spheroidization is serious. Case-2, after setting reasonable chills for casting, the numerical simulation of spent-nuclear-fuel container is carried out. Solidification time is 10602s. The solidification time is 87% shorter than that in Case-1. Therefore, the addition of chills can effectively shorten the solidification time. But the simulation results of Case-2 still do not meet the requirements of experiments. Case-3, the reasonable cooling water is set in the center of casting. After that, the solidification process simulation is carried out. The results show that the solidification time of casting is 10409s. Although the time in Case-3 is slightly lower than the Case-2, the cooling pipes are difficult to effectively reduce the solidification time of casting in centre parts. The upper center parts of the casting are finally solidified area. This position has a slight spheroidization declining. Case-4, the process of forced cooling is optimized based on Case-3. Cooling water piping is added in the upper position of mold. Then the solidification process simulation was carried out. The solidification time of casting is 7167s. Casting completely solidifies within the required time. The spheroidization declining in the spent-nuclear-fuel container is avoided.By using the software of PROCAST, solidification process of spent-nuclear-fuel container is simulated, which is used by several different methods of forced cooling. Casting process is optimized. Finally, the reasonable casting process was obtained.
