Detergents and dispersants are important class of lubricant additives, which are widely used in marine engines. With the development of marine industry, it points a higher requirement for water dividing property. However, there are still some bid gaps in the additive industry between domestic and international advanced prducts. So it is necessary to analyze and compare the difference of the detergents and dispersants in China and abroad, and to find the reasons, which will help make the development and progress of lubricant technology in China. In this paper, the structures and compositions of several foreign and domestic typical detergents and dispersants are studied to find the relationship between composition and performance. The dynamic membrane dialysis, column chromatography separation technology are used to separete and purify the samples. And IR, NMR, MS and other advanced analytical instruments are applied to determine the structures of the samples. Based on comparing the differences in composition of the samples, the colloidal stability, water separation and anti-washing performance of detergents and dispersants are furtherly studied according to the special requirements of marine lubricants. The results show that the effective content of foreign sulfurized calcium alkyl phenolate has higher than that of domestic products; the degree of branching in alkyl chain of foreign sulfurized calcium alkyl phenolate is larger than that of the domestic products, and the molecular weight distribution coefficient of foreign products is more uniform; colloidal stability and anti-washing performance of foreign sulfurized calcium alkyl phenolate is better than that of domestic product; the same type of calcium sulfonate detergents and dispersants, the products with larger degree of branching in alkyl chain has better water separation performance; anti-washing performance hinges on the quality of colloidal stability which has little relationship with water separation performance.
