The rubber rollers which located in the bottom of electroplating groove is soaked in the environment of electroplating chromium solution, and at the same time they are affected by the contact stress from strip surface at work. We could discover some corrosion and cracking phenomena on the surface of rollers after a period of use. It seriously affected the surface quality and service life of the rollers, and also made the normal production of chromium plated board cause great loss every year.In this dissertation, the chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber (CSM) was discussed as main research object, which is the surface lay material of rubber roller. Firstly macro and micro failure analysis were used to analyze the form of corrosion and cracking mechanism, and confirmed the material failure form to be the environmental stress corrosion cracking according to the result, some main influence factors were speculated meanwhile. To make a comprehensive understanding of the mechanical properties and stress corrosion resistance performance of CSM, two sets of laboratory experiment device were designed and manufactured, which were the tensile testing machine and dynamic simulation test device. Plenty of data about oxidation stress cracking rate of CSM under some different conditions were got through some related tests, such as loading condition and environmental media, etc. And the sensitivity of the stress corrosion of CSM was assessed by its fracture life in chrome plating solution. Furthermore, some main factors, such as the CSM thickness and hardness, load frequency, load magnitude, solution concentration, temperature of environment were proved and summed up, which could make great influence on the CSM surface cracking process. In order to verify the reliability of test data, the CSM rubber roller that worked on production line and laboratory was simulated and analyzed in ABAQUS, making use of finite element method. Finally, took some aspects into consideration, which including the surface cracking mechanism, contributing factor and the feasibility of actual work environment improvement, several economic and reasonable protective measures were offered in view of phenomenon of CSM roller surface failure. The research in this dissertation has important practical significance in studying the improvement of material corrosion resistance, extending CSM roller life, reducing the consumption of resources, etc.
