ABS resin is acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer with good strength. It is good thermoplastic polymer material widely used in industrial fields for its easy processing. There are many ways preparing the ABS resin and nowadays the most widely used method is preparation the ABS copolymer with the seeded emulsion and melt with the bulk SAN resin.. Poly-butadiene latex is first synthesized then grafted acrylonitrile and styrene on the poly-butadiene chain. This paper is mainly focus on the following steps. Poly-butadiene latex with different particle sizes was first synthesized by emulsion polymerization by change the emulsifier, electrolyte, TDDM and water content. Study the effect of above mentioned element on the different rubber particle size latex during the process of preparation. ABS resin have the different properties because of the difference between the rubber particle sizes, so the overall properties including the mechanical,,gloss and other performance of ABS resin should also be studied. ABS resins of different rubber particle sizes have good mechanical performance for the synergy effect between the rubber particles. The conclusion just as the following:The rubber particle size was influenced by the emulsifier, mercaptan, water, electrolyte and initiator content. The rubber particle size of poly(butadiene) latex was decreased with the emulsifier, water, initiator and mercaptan content increasing in the polymerization system, but increased with the electrolyte content increasing. The ABS resin overall performance including mechanics, gloss and other properties was best when the rubber particle size at about 300nm. The material break at the brittle way when the rubber particle size ranging from 64 to 110nm, however mainly at the ductile fracture when the rubber size from 216 to 420nm.The synergy effect was obvious in the blends of ABS-110/ABS-275 when the ABS-110 ratio at the proportion of 7:3.
