ASA (Acrylate-Styrene-Acrylonitrile) resin is a rubber toughened thermoplastic, and is prepared by melt-blending PBA-g-SAN grafted copolymer with SAN. In the PBA-g-SAN grafted copolymer, the core is polyacrylate and the shell is copolymer of Styrene-g-Acrylonitrile (SAN). ASA resin concludes the dispersed phase of PBA and the continuous phase of Styrene-g-Acrylonitrile (SAN) and the interface is graft-copolymer. The grafted copolymer of SAN improves the interface between the two phase bonding. The preparation of ASA resin includes the following process:first, the PBA seed latex was carried, then the increased the PBA rubber particles size, the PBA latex was synthesized by emulsion polymerization, and the emulsion grafting acrylonitrile and styrene onto PBA latex, drying of the grafted latex. By melt blending these copolymer with SAN resin and ASA resin were carried. The paper mainly studied the effect of grafting agent. PBA rubber particle size and the particle size of P(Bd/BA/St) on the structure and property of ASA resin. The conclusions are as follows:1 A series of PBA-g-SAN grafted copolymer were synthesis by changing the content of crosslink agent, and melt blending with SAN, and the ASA/SAN blends were gained. It was found that the particle size of PBA had no changed with increasing of the crosslink agent content, grafting degree was increased with an increase of crosslink agent, the impact strength of ASA/SAN blends is first increased then decreased with increasing of it, when the grafting agent content accounted for 3wt% of PBA monomer, ASA resin has the maximum impact strength. The DMA curve shows that the glass transition temperature of PBA is increased with increasing of crosslink agent content.2 A series of PBA-g-SAN grafted copolymer were synthesized by changing the content of seed latex, and melt blending with SAN, and the ASA/SAN blends were gained. It was found that the impact strength of ASA blends increased and then decreased with an increasing of PBA rubber particle size. The dynamic mechanical property of PBA-g-SAN grafted copolymer was investigated by DMA and the results show that the Tg of PBA decreased and then increased with an increase in PBA rubber particle size. Scanning electron microscope results experience that PBA rubber particle was coagulated at 92.6nm and other PBA with different particle size uniformly disperse in SAN matrix.3 The Novel ASA grafted copolymer were synthesized by emulsion polymerization, and the core is P(A/Bd/St) and the shell is SAN, and melt blending with SAN resin,the Novel ASA resin were prepared. The results show that the Novel ASA resin has the mix impact strength when the core/shell ratio is 50/50. With the increasing of the P(BA/Bd/St) particle size,the impact strength of Novel ASA resin first increased and then decreased, and the Novel ASA resin has the mix impact strength when the particle size of P(BA/Bd/St) is 354nm. The Scanning electron microscope results show that PBA rubber particle was uniformly dispersed in SAN matrix.
