Folic Acid(FA) is a very important kind of vitamine B and is found in some enriched foods.Folate deficiency is believed to be the most common vitamin deficiency in the world due to food processing, food selection and intestinal disorders. In the body, folic acid may be converted into any of the active forms of folate. Folate acts as a coenzyme in several single carbon transfer reactions to synthesize DNA,RNA and protein components.Pregnant women utilize enriched foods for protecting their. child against folate-related diseases such as neural tube defects and anaemia.A sensitive and reliable method was developed for the determination of folic acid in vitamine -fortified food after precipitation , FA was determined by indirect fluorescence .Limit of detection was51μg·L-1 and the Linearity was always satisfactory when FA's content was 0-1.6mg·L-1 Average recovery was 97.1% in acetate buffer (pH=4.0) by indirect fluorescence and Relative Standard Deviation was 1.99%(n=6).This method was also applied to the powerd milk for the pregnant women. We also determined the contant of FA by indirect AAS.FA can react with Ag+and Mg2+ respectively under certain conditions, so the Recoveries of the method were 96.8%-102.8% by Ag+ indirect AAS and 97.5%-101.2% by Mg2+ indirect AAS, with Relative Standard Deviations were 1.86%(n=5) and 1.23%(n=5). Limit of detection of the methods were 3.3μg·mL-1 and 10.3μg·mL-1 respectively, When FA's content was 0-0.1mg·mL-1 the Linearity was satisfactory.Based on the performance characteristics, the proposed methodology was found suitable for the determination of folic acid in tablet formulations.
