The ice storm is one of the natural disasters that it has serious threat to the safe operation of the transmission lines. The ultra-high voltage(UHV) transmission line is more susceptible to the hazards of the ice storm because it has the features of long routes, passing through the areas with heavily ice covered, large span between the tower and mostly using of splitting wires. It is a worldwide problem that how to ensure the UHV transmission line operates safely in ice and snow weather. Currently, there is a lot of study on anti-icing technology of transmission line around the world, and a variety of de-icing or aiti-icing technology are proposed. However, due to the applicable conditions and economic restrictions, most of the de-icing or anti-icing application technology are limited. The anti-icing ability of UHV transmission lines is studied from iron-tower, wire-line and ground-ling in this paper. And the anti-icing ability of iron-tower is mainly studied. Based on analysis the case and destroy characters of collapsed icing-tower, it is put forward that the anti-icing ability of iron-tower can be advantaged through improve it structure designing. The de-icing technology of UHV wire-line and ground-line are discussed in this article, and mainly discussed the feasibility of DC de-icing and reactive power compensation technology. It also simply discussed the UHV ground-line de-icing problem and it insulation mode.
