Objective: To investigate the effect of Shengjingsan prescription on sperm DNA repair of infertile patients . Methods: 56 patients with oligoasthenospemia were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups as 28 cases for Chinese medicine group and the other 28 cases for control group. The Chinese medicine group were given Shengjingsan prescription and the control group were treated with vitamin C and vitamin E. Routine semen exam and sperm DNA fragment index (DFI) were reexamined after 2~3 months of treatment. Observations of retrieved oocyte number in IVF-ET cycle, number of Mâ…¡Egg, number of fertilized eggs, number of cleavage egg, number of available embryos and planting rate, clinical pregnancy rate and abortion rate were carried out in two groups. Results: There is no significant difference in sperm concentration, vitality, and the DFI values between two groups before the treatment (P>0.05). A remarkable improvement were observed in sperm vitality of Chinese medicine group, which compared with control group after the treatment (P<0.05). And there is also a significant decrease in sperm DFI of Chinese medicine group compared with it was in control group and before(P<0.05). Planting rate and clinical pregnancy rate in Chinese medicine group is markablely higher than it in control group (31.03% vs15.25%,46.43% vs21.43%, respectively). The abortion rate is lower than that in control group(15.38%vs33.33%)(P<0.05). Conclusion: Shengjingsan prescription can remarkably reduce the sperm DNA fragment index of infertile patients, which indicates that it can repair the damaged DNA of sperms to enhance the quality of the sperm so that it can improve the reproductive outcome of the patients undergoing IVF-ET treatment.
