Purpose:To observe the influence of electrical stimulation to single or bilateral vagus nerve of liver-stagnation rats on plasma content of adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH),corticosterone (CORT), prostaglandins, thromboxane (6-keto-PGF1α),(TXB2), and central monoamine neurotransmitters including norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), serotonin five (5-HT), discuss the therapeutic effect and possibly mechanisms of stimulation to left vagus nerve on experimental liver stagnation syndrome based on traditional Chinese medicine theory of "Huang Di Nei jing" that "liver was born in left", and to better guide in clinical.Methods:50 healthy Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, namely the blank group, model group, left vagus stimulation group, right vagus stimulation group, bilateral vagus stimulation group. liver stagnation syndrome of rat models were made, plasma PGI2, TXA2, ACTH, CORT levels were measured by RIA methods and central monoamine neurotransmitters such as NE, DA,5-HT contents were detected by ELISA. Results:Plasma 6-keto-PGF1αwas decreased, ACTH, CORT, and TXB2 were elevated, central monoamine neurotransmitters levels such as NE, DA,5-HT were decreased in model group (P<0.05 vs blank group), indicated that model was successfully made; Plasma 6-keto-PGF1αwas increased, ACTH, TXB2, and CORT levels were reduced, neurotransmitters NE, DA,5-HT were increased among left vagus stimulation group, right vagus stimulation group and bilateral vagus stimulation group (P<0.05 vs model group), besides, the effect of stimulation to the left vagus was better than that of right vagus nerve stimulation group (P<0.05). Conclusion:Electrical stimulation to the left vagus nerve can obviously improve the plasma levels of 6-keto-PGF1α, ACTH, CORT, TXB2 and central monoamine neurotransmitters of NE, DA,5-HT in rat model of liver depression syndrome, therefore to against liver pathological damage, showing certain therapeutic effect on liver stagnation syndrome, providing the evidence to the theory of the "Huang Di Nei Jing" that liver was born in the left.
