Objective:To evaluate the therapeutic effect and priority of the combination of TCM with west medicine in treating senile hypertension from the aspects of anti-hypertension, improving TCM syndrome and quality of life.Methods:This was a multi-center randomized controlled.investigation.All the 130 cases living at Jingzhuang Town, Yanqing County were equally distributed into test group (the combination of TCM with West Medicine group) and control group(West Medicine group).The control group was given western medicine foundation treatment because of the specifics of senile hypertension patient, in conformity with The 2005 Chinese Guidance of Hypertensive Prevention and Cure (Revised Edition) and The JNC7 of U.S.A Guidance of Hypertensive Prevention and Cure. The test group was divided into phlegm and blood obstruction group,yin deficiency with yang excessing group, kidney deficiency group.They were treated with additional TCM herb calledⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲprescription The general conditions of the volunteers were collected (including name, gender, age, blood pressure, medical history, course of disease, symptoms, etc.), compared the 2 groups'TCM syndromes,ambulatory blood pressure monitoring,quality of life before and after the treatment.Result:The ABPM value of the two groups was decreased obviously compared wit h pre-treating, and there were statistic differences. TCM syndrome integral:there w as a significant difference (P<0.05) in vertigo, soreness of waist, weakness in knee,ti nnitus, choking sensation in chest, cyanotic lips, dry mouth, shortness of breath(P<0. 05),and an extreme difference (P<0.01) in insomnia,heaviness of head,irritable, amnes ia, acratia, nocturia between the test group and control group. Total integral of TC M syndromes in the two groups are extremely different (t=19.459, P=0.000<0.01).H ypertensive patients'quality of life:the measured 11 dimensions of the both group s were declined, while as the test group was more obvious than the control group. There were significant differences (P<0.05) at the aspects of collection value, sleepin g,hostility, depression, sensitivity about people relationship et al, and extreme differen ces (P<0.01) at the aspects of physiological functions, somatization symptom, oblige symptom et al in the test group from control group.Conclusion:Many syndromes of senile hypertension such as vertigo, soreness of waist, weakness in knee, tinnitus, choking sensation in chest,cyanotic lips, dry mo uth, shortness of breath,insomnia,heaviness of head,irritable, amnesia, acratia, nocturia were obviously improved after using the combination TCM with the West Medicine. The value of collection, sleeping, hostility, depression, sensitivity about people rela tionship, physiological functions, somatization symptom, oblige symptom et al were d eclined.The results from the follow up clinical observation and statistical analysis sub stantially certified the effect and priority of the combination of Chinese Medicine wi th the West Medicine. The results also provided an evidence for treating senile hyp ertension with standardization program at clinic.
