Objective: To investigate the extent of carotid atherosclerosis using color Doppler ultrasonography in order to study its diagnostic value in coronary heart disease in Relationship between carotid artery atherosclerosis and coronary artery lesion in patients with coronary heart disease .Methods: 195 patients who accepted coronary angiography were divided into no coronary heart disease group (NCHD group, n =42) and coronary heart disease group (CHD group, n=153). CHD patients were divided into three groups according to the coronary branches involved: Groupâ… (one branch, n=63), Groupâ… (two branches, n=49), Groupâ…¢(three branches, n =41). The intima-media thickness (IMT) and plaque of common carotid arteries were measured in all patients with ultrasound.Results:â‘ Carotid artery IMT was associated with smoking,hypertension,diabetes,low density lipoprotein (p<0.05)â‘¡the more serious the coronary heart disease, the thicker IMT and the higher incidence rate of plaque in carotid artery was (P <0.05).â‘¢T here was significiantly positive correlation between IMT and coronary artery branch, coronary artery stenosis score (P <0.05). There was significiantly positive correlation between carotid plaque scores and coronary artery branch, coronary artery stenosis score (P <0.05).Conclusion There was more relative relationship between carotid artery atherosclerosis and the coronary artery disease. IMT and plaques of the common carotid artery can be used to predict the severity of coronary artery disease.
