Objective:To observe the serum procalcitonin (PCT) level with rabbit's knee joint prosthesis infection and to explore its significance. Methods:Model of joint replacement with rabbit's knee was established in New Zealand White rabbit. After succeeded in model 40 New Zealand White rabbits were randomly divided into two groups:infected group (N) (n=20) and control group (N) (n=20). On the 15th day after total knee replacement.0.1 ml bacterial liquid of staphylococcus aureus (SA) and 0.1 ml physiological saline were separately injected into joint cavity of posterior knee in the right. We measured the serum PCT levels with Enzyme Linked Immunoadsorbent Assay in different period of time:24h before modeling, 24h after modeling and 24h after inoculation.Result:The normal values of plasma PCT level was (144.75±73.03) ng/ml at 24h before modeling. The normal values of plasma PCT level was (149.91±79.08) ng/ml at 24h after modeling, and no significant difference between 24h before modeling, and 24h after modeling was found (P>0.05). In the infection group, the average of plasma PCT was (844.63±619.53) ng/ml at 24h after inoculation.and the control group was (141.1±82.25) ng/ml; Contrasted PCT level of infection group and control group, the difference has statistical sense (p<0.05). Compared PCT level after inoculation and before and after the surgery, the difference had sense (p<0.05).Conclusion:The plasma PCT level of prosthesis infection in rabbit's knee joint replacement is elevated, this can be regarded as an auxiliary diagnosis index for prosthesis infection.
