| Objective To observe the visual quality and capsular stability after implantation of Acrysof toric intraocular lenses (IOL) in cataract patients with corneal astigmatism.Methods Sixty patients(80 eyes) who had implantation of Acrysof toric IOL in our hospital between Oct.2009 and Sep.2010 were included in the observation group. The patients were divided into four groups according to the toric models (T3,T4,T5). The uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), residual cylinders, contrast sensitivity (CS), wavefront aberration, the changes of IOL rotation, decentration and tilt were evaluated 3 months postoperatively. Forty-five patients (75 eyes) who had implantation of Acrysof Natural IOL were included in the control group.Results Seventy eyes(87.5%) achieved UCVA of 0.5 or better in the observation group, while in the control group fifty-one eyes (68%)achieved UCVA of 0.5 or better. The UCVA improved in the toric groups three months postoperatively. The UCVA of group T5b was lower than that of the other three groups (χ2=20.37, P<0.05) The residual cylinder of the observation group was (0.51±0.78) D, which was much lower than of the control group(t=2.54,P<0.05). The residual cylinder was(1.69±0.68)D in group T5b,which was statistically different with the other three groups. The CS of the observation group was higher than that of the control group. The low-order aberration and coma of the observation group were lower than those of the control group. The CS of group T5b was lower than that of the other three toric groups. The low-order aberration and coma of group T5b was higher than that of the other three groups. The mean degree of IOL rotation was (3.27±1.72)°.67 eyes (83.75%) rotated less than 5 degrees, and 79 eyes (98.75%) rotated less than 10 degrees. The mean degree of IOL decentration was (0.28±0.06)mm; while the tilt degree was (2.08±0.14)°Conlusion Implantation of the AcrySof toric IOL proves to be an effective, safe, and stable method of managing corneal astigmatism in cataract patients and provides patients with good visual quality. The Acrysof toric intraocular lenses demonstrate excellent rotation and centration stability. |
