| Objective To observe the expression of Myf-5 in extra ocular muscle (EOMs) of patients with concomitant extropia. To investigate the role of Myf-5 in the etiology of concomitant extropia. Methods We collected 16 cases patients with concomitant extropia from December 2009 to November 2010 in Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Qingdao University, and then divided them into two groups:the group of children with concomitant extropia and the group of adults with concomitant extropia. Medial rectus muscles were got with agreement of patients accepted surgical resection. Control muscles were obtained from patients with eyeballs removed with injury or corneal transplant donors. Cross sections were stained immunochemically and measured the mean optical density according to the expression of Myf-5. To compare the difference in different groups and analyze the relationship among the expression of Myf-5,the age and the strabismus degree.Results①There were significant differences(P< 0.01)between the control group (0.233±0.024)and the strabismus group(0.024±0.041),the group of children with concomitant extropia(0.156±0.011) and the group of adults with concomitant extropia(0.095±0.038),the control group (0.233±0.024)and the group of adults with concomitant extropia(0.095±0.038). The formers had higher levels than the latters.±There were negative relationships between Myf-5 expression and patients' age and their strabismus degrees. Conclusion The decreased level of Myf-5expression may participate in the incidence of concomitant extropia. The changement of the expression of Myf-5 in extraocular muscles may result in deteriorating of concomitant extropia. |
