Maternal Coping With Children's Negative Emotions, Children's Emotionality And Children's Emotional Regulation

Children's emotional socialization has been one of the most interested issues for researchers. Emotion regulation of children in the process of emotional socialization has an important role in the development of children's social competence, so in this paper children's emotional expression in the disappointment situation as the starting point, we explore the developmental features of children's emotion regulation.Parents as children's first teachers, their words and deeds always affect children's psychological development, especially parents' parenting style have a significant impact on children's emotional socialization, for parent, how to react to children's emotional behavior should be part of parenting practices, This paper investigate the specific behavior of the mother, study the mechanisms of mothers'behavior influencing children's emotion regulation in-depth.Children's Gender and emotionality are the most important factors of children's emotional expression, emotional regulation, but also affect the mother childrearing and parenting practices. Children who are different gender have different levels of emotionality, and it will make parent's different way of parenting practices or behavior. This study examines the moderation of child's gender and emotionality in mothers' behavior between children's emotion regulation.Using disappointing gift paradigm, this study recorded facial, vocal and gesture expression of 145 children aged 4-6. All participating parents completed parents coping to children negative emotions (CCNES) and children's emotionality questionnaire. Results revealed that:(1) for age and gender, there is no significant differences in overall positive and negative emotional expression control and also in vocal/gesture expression control; but exist difference in the duration of facial positive expression and total facial positive expression control, a positive expression of 6-year-olds is better than 5-year-old children, however the duration of facial negative expression and the total negative expression is different between boys and girls, Negative expression scores of girls is higher than boys'.(2)Parents' coping to children negative emotions vary with different ages, mothers always apply more encourage emotional expression and minimize reactions for 4 year-old group of children than 5 year and 6 years-old. (3)Punishment, minimize reactions form mother is associated with children's negative emotional expression control positively; there is a negative correlation between mother's punishment and children's positive emotions control, children's positive emotionality is associated with negative emotions expression control negatively.(4) Mother's Punishment and child gender can predict the children facial negative expression control, children gender moderate mother's Punishment and children facial negative expression control, the mother's punishment have a more important influence on the facial negative emotions control for girls than boys.(5)Mother's punishment and Children's positive emotionality predict children's total negative emotional expression control respectively. The effect of mother's punishment is better than the children's positive emotionality.
