Anne of Green Gables is the masterpiece of renowned Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery, published in 1908. It has won the favor of people of different ages and from different countries. Until 1970s and 1980s, this novel had been studied by many critics from diversified perspectives, such as feminism, education, and religion, etc. Thesis attempts to analyze Anne of Green Gables in light of ecofeminist criticism. Eco-feminism has its good time since the 1970s. Eco-feminists indicate that women and nature are intertwined and closed related. Woman and nature are the two main themes of Lucy Montgomery. Through analyzing the close connection between women and nature, the oppression of women under patriarchy and their struggle for equality, and the integrity of human beings and nature in the novel, this study shows that Montgomery is a woman writer with ecofeminist awareness. She urges the development concept of harmony between humans and nature, men and women. This thesis comprises six chapters. Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the author, the work Anne of Green Gables, and on the basis of a detailed literature review at home and abroad, presents the thesis statement. Chapter Two is the theoretical foundation, dealing with the definition of eco-feminism and combing eco-feminist thoughts and exploring the connection between the oppression of women and oppression of nature. Chapter Three from the feminist perspective deals with the author's imaginative characterization of female characters relating with the author's faith in female intelligence and her protesting spirit. Chapter Four explores the eco-feminist reading of nature in terms of the author's ideal of going back to nature and the women's connection with the nature. Chapter Five explores the harmonious relationship between Anne and man point out the harmony to be the solution to women's problem. Chapter Six is the conclusion part which gives a brief summary of the whole thesis.
