On Creative Research Into Chuanshan Study By Ji Wenfu

Ji Wenfu, a renowned Marxism scholar, with his lifetime of broad study and many a writing, has attained conspicuous success in many areas. As a pioneer who studies the academic thoughts of Wang Chuanshan by dialectical materialism and historical materialism, he has adapted the viewpoint of the western philosophy to study it systematically from 1930s, and explored an approach of studying Chuanshan's academic thoughts with the principle of Marxism.Wang Chuanshan is a great thinker in turn from Ming to Qing Dynasty in China. Having extensive knowledge and profound scholarship, the ideological system he constructed is a critical summing up to Chinese traditional doctrines as well as extensively inspires the ideological mainstream in China to weed through out the old to bring forth the new continuously. The social and academic lives Wang Chuanshan has experienced made him a great thinker as the words said "have been innovated a ideological scenery,inspired by six classics vitally". Ji Wenfu's creative research into Chuanshan Study has not only formed a representative part of his own academic thoughts but also opened the way for all those who followed.Although Ji Wenfu's great contribution to Chuanshan Study has been positively affirmed by many later scholars, it's true that attention so far has not been paid sufficiently. His contribution apparently has left us regret as well as expectation. Under such circumstances, this thesis serves as an echo to the expectation to change this situation.This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is the development of Ji Wenfu's academic thoughts. In this section, lifelong experience of Ji Wenfu has first been comprehensively introduced, then the development of his academic thoughts, including the direct or indirect influences upon him by Sun Xiafeng, Wang Chuanshan, Quan Xieshan and Liu Cuixuan, Li Minxiu. The academic study of Wang Chuanshan before Ji Wenfu is profiled in the second part.The third part, main body of this thesis, discusses the essence of Ji Wenfu's academic thoughts of Chuanshan Study, composed of the following sections:Ji Wenfu's analysis on the origin of Chuanshan Study, research on Chuanshan philosophy and historical methods, summary of Chuanshan new policy theory, original view toward Chuanshan, attention to Chuanshan national patriotism, discrimination between materialism and idealism among Chuanshan thoughts, judgement on the hierarchy of Chuanshan thoughts, and finally a brief for the relevant academic statistics.The fourth part analyses the cause and significance of ground-breaking achievement by Ji Wenfu and draw to the conclusion that his achivement is a historical necessity. Later scholars' evaluation on his academic thoughts of Chuanshan Study is exhibited in the fifth part, where this thesis colloects an much as possible information for an open interpretation. At last, the limitations and defects in Ji Wenfu's thoughts are putted forward to ensure the integrity of the study.Through the above analysis, this thesis focuses on delineating the innovations and contributions Ji Wenfu has dedicated to Chuanshan Study and their influences on the modern research, as a base for appropriately assessing the historical position of Ji Wenfu.
