Ellipsis, a rhetoric device widely used in Huangdi Neijing, is a text-developing method contextually applied to omit some parts of sentences. It includes the omissions according to the preceding text and the following text. Generally, it is especially common in Ancient Medical Literature. It makes the statement concise and powerful rather than affects the meaning of expression. In modern translation studies, hermeneutics is the study of interpretation theory, which refers to the study of the interpretation of written texts, especially texts in the areas of literature. George Steiner's fourfold translation, namely trust, aggression, incorporation and compensation, permeates into the whole process of translation. It properly illustrates the translating works and provides guidance for translation. With the assistance of UltraEdit 16.20, Word2003 and Paraconc (Demo), a study carried on via a sentence alignment Chinese-English Parallel Corpus of Huangdi Neijing by three tagged versions (original and two translating versions). Consequently, the frequency of subject, predicate, attributive, adverbial and conjunction in the omitting sentences from former 34 chapters were computed by the ParaConc (Demo) which did a parallel retrieval for sentences of subject omissions to count the translating measures adopted by Li Zhaoguo and Iliza Veith.Otherwise, in this thesis, a detailed analysis of similarities and differences, the right translations and questionable translations in the two versions through typical examples is described from the perspective of the fourfold translation theory. Therefore, the conclusion of translating steps for the Chinese medical literatures like Huangdi Neijing is drawed as follows:1. Translator has to know the background culture of Chinese medicine and has a faith in its value; 2. Translator invades the original works and interprets the meaning of the text; 3. This step is the process of absorbing and understanding the meaning, connotation, rhetoric, style and so on, which includes transforming the original language into target language; 4. The last but the most important step is to compensate the original language and target language.Overall, the study roundly and impersonally discussing the English-translation strategies of ellipsis in Huangdi Neijing aims to enhance people's attention to ellipsis in ancient Chinese medical classics and to attain the achievements of translating TCM classics in proper way with the fourfold translation mode.
