With the current ecological crisis worsening, elaborating and interpreting the ecological influences embodied in Walden systematically and comprehensively holds practical significance, meanwhile it is also an invaluable spiritual gift presented to people living in the era of ecological crisis, and also an everlasting sounding alarm to arouse the ecological consciousness of the human beings who must face the issue of the relationship between man and nature in the process of social development.Thoreau's representative work Walden mainly unfolds the process that Thoreau underwent by going to live in the forest by himself to deplore the true meaning and value of life, and in which Thoreau elaborates his deep ecological thoughts such as the equality between human beings and other living forms, man as part of harmonious nature and the communication of man and nature as the means of man's self-realization. The development of modern industry and technology made human beings lose their nature and direction of life, fettered by material desires. These byproducts of modern civilization have caused devastation to nature. Thoreau tells us that only simple material life and rich inner life could be the so-called vital and meaningful life. This thesis intends to give an eco-critical study of Walden through reading the text from the perspective of eco-criticism, probing the profound ecological implications reflected in this work. Through an in-depth analysis and research of the ecological thinking, this thesis intends to help awaken the ecological consciousness of the relationship between man and nature, and make people aware of the seriousness of their living situation and the necessity of caring about the earth in crisis. This thesis also aims to provide certain cultural references and theoretical implications for alleviating environmental crisis, building harmonious society, building ecological civilization, and achieving sustainable development.
