In order to explore the metaphor mechanism in the headlines of disaster news, bases on the headlines in1358 pieces of disaster news. This thesis is tried to describe the syntactic structure features in metaphor, and to investigate the inherent metaphor and cognitive characteristics in the headlines. Both the combination of description and interpretation methods and the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods are adopted in this thesis.It is found that more than 90 percent of metaphors are noun and verb metaphors in the headlines of disaster news. Most of the nominal metaphor ontology are linked to a certain dimension of disaster events .Vehicles are often familiar words in the semantic network, close to the general public awareness, involving education, transportation, animals, plants, weather and other Semantic Web. Verbal metaphor can often meterialize abstract things and enhance the appeal of news headlines, by which the media audiences can build a dynamic image to deepen the understanding of news stories.Conceptual metaphor widely used in the title of catastrophic news. Among them, the orientational metaphor of "up / down", "before / after" are typical examples. Ontological metaphor of the container metaphor, the human body metaphor and the "love" and "emotion" are typical representatives. Structural metaphor is the most widely used metaphor in the disaster titles, including war metaphor, education metaphor, color metaphor, meteorological metaphor, construction metaphor, transportation metaphor, the medical metaphor, sports metaphors, music metaphor, and animal metaphor. The words used as the beginning of the source domain are closely related with people's lives, with a wide range of historical and cultural foundation and social cognition basis. So these words are highly accepted by audience.
