| Angklung is an ancient folk instrument from Indonesia, classified as an idiophone and played by being shaken. It originated with the Sundanese people in West Java. Since its first appearance, angklung has received numerous modifications. The changes in Sundanese lifestyle and beliefs influenced the function of the Angklung. Its shape and repertoire has also gradually changed from an ancient instrument closely related to traditional customs and beliefs to a kind of performing arts.Over the decades, modern angklung has gone through a rise and fall, as well as facing inheritance and conservation issues. As a traditional musical instrument, the Angklung has to endeavor to endure modernization and globalization.The sustainability of the Angklung deserves the attention of all Indonesian people. The Angklung, after all, is one of the nation's cultural heritages. Therefore, as the first "Chinese Government Scholarship" Indonesian student of Guangxi Normal University, the writer feels deeply responsible to help conserve the Angklung art. On the advice of the supervisor, the writer chose "Indonesian West Java Angklung along with its Inheritance and Conservation Issues" as the research topic.In this research, the writer does a survey analysis of the Indonesian West Java Angklung, in particular the current situation of the inheritance of Angklung Padaeng (modern angklung). In accordance with the survey, the writer proposes feasible inheritance strategies as well as exploring how to help the Angklung art receive a better conservation, continuation and development. This research mainly uses ethnomusicology method, combined with cultural anthropology, folklore and other research methods in conducting fieldwork survey. Using the perspective on non-material cultural heritage inheritance and conservation, with Saung Angklung Udjo as case study, the writer conducts Angklung inheritance and conservation studies.This thesis consists of four chapters, each of which briefed as follows:Chapter One, "Profile of Indonesian West Java Music Culture", gives a brief introduction to Indonesian West Java Culture, including its history, geography, population, beliefs, custom, economy, livelihood, art and traditional music.Chapter Two, "Analysis of Indonesian West Java Angklung", is a detailed description and explanation of Indonesian West Java Angklung, including its history, form and structure, instrument characteristic, and cultural changes.Chapter Three, "Case Study on Indonesian West Java Angklung", is the records and thoughts of the writer's field work in Saung Angklung Udjo. The contents include the history and development of Saung Angklung Udjo, the contribution of Saung Angklung Udjo to the inheritance and conservation of the Angklung, the impact of Saung Angklung Udjo to the Angklung, and the problems faced by Saung Angklung Udjo.Chapter Four, "The Consideration of the Inheritance and Conservation of Indonesian West Java Angklung in the Contemporary Era", includes the value and significance of the research, the problems and challenges faced by the West Java Angklung inheritance and conservation, the consideration of the inheritance of West Java Angklung in the contemporary era, and the consideration of the steps necessary to conserve West Java Angklung in the contemporary era. |
