Grand Canal of China is first artificial canal in the world. It's history can date back in Spring and Autumn Period,2,500 years ago, and this big project had lasted all through to the Sui, Tang and Song dynasties. The canal scale of that we see today had been completed by the Yuan Dynasty. In Ming and Qing dynasties, it's shape had been renovated. The Grand Canal runs through thousands of miles from north to south and passes through eight provinces, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei,Shandong,Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang. It communicates the Yellow River, Haihe, Huaihe, Yangtze and Qiantang River. It is across multiple Provinces and major geographical units of cultural heritage lines. As the most important part of the Tongji drainage, Shangqiu was once an important town of Grand Canal in the Sui and Tang. All of above factors draw the conclusion that Shangqiu had played an important role in history.This paper is divided into three parts, including introduction, body and conclusion.In the introduction of this paper there are three parts:one shows that the background and significance of the study and the current problems in China's Grand Canal researching. In another part, the author revealed conservation status of this history legacy and provided the suggestion for protecting the Canal which based on the experience aboard and home. The last part was the researches methods and the contents of the study.The mainly body of this paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter focuses on the historical changes of Grand Canal, and expound the value of the Grand Canal According to the historical documents and archaeological data integration, the author revealed the flowing direction of Grand Canal passed Shangqiu area. The second chapter is Grand Canal of China's heritage structure, characteristics and values The third chapter is the most important section. It focuses on the relationship between Shangqiu intangible cultural heritage and Grand Canal. Based on the literature research and on-the-spot investigation, the author analysis the connection between Grand canal and coastal intangible cultural heritage. In the fourth chapter, the author considerate the background and significance of the study comprehensively to draw the current problems in Grand Canal protection and researching, and then, provides practical measures to solve those conundrums.At last, the conclusion part of this paper summarizes Grand Canal in three aspects from the past and present to the future.
