Survival Predicament And Self-redemption Of People On Urban Margin

This thesis analyses the survival predicament faced by the people on urban margin in Annbaby's works by the way of carefully reading texts and references the angle of view on cultural studies, specific for drawing some psychological theories on growth and narcissism, and from the perspective of the identity theory and the theories about gender culture, showing the characters' awareness of self-conscious redemption facing the triple troubles in the growing process:the trouble of strong narcissism, the strong sense of alienation, the anxiety of identity and the confusion of self-identity.This thesis first throws the topic,that is, the survival predicament faced by the people on urban margin in Annbaby's novels, and analyses the uniqueness appropriately, namely, facing triple troubles. The second chapter mainly uses some psychological theories on growth and narcissism for reference to explore the characters'trouble of strong narcissism in the growing process, from two aspects to look into the plight of the people facing the survival predicament, one is her autobiographical novels; the other is the character like "Narcissus" in her novels. Then the thesis studies why the characters grow up into a new predicament, that is, they can not maintain close and friendly relations with others, even the most important people in life, such as parents, lovers and friends, but always keep a strong sense of alienation. Finally, the thesis explores another survival predicament from the angle of the identity anxiety and the confusion of self-identity; in addition, the thesis also learns from the theories related to identity and gender culture to pursue the characters' awareness of self-conscious redemption facing survival predicament, pondering how the characters lose themseves coerced by material desires and begin the long road of the probe.
