| The criticism movement to Li Hongzhang developed at the later stage of great culture revolution is a farce in the name of learning but completely served for the politics. In order to make pointed allusions to a batch of party and state leaders such as Liu Shaoqi, Linbiao, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping etc. and cater to the demand of political fight, Li Hongzhang was send to the critical altar time after time and was condemned discretionarily, which make up a unique view in the academia at later stage of great culture revolution. The appearance of this phenomenon is the evil consequence caused by the one-sided stress that learning shall serve for politics after the establishment of new government, while the negatory comment to Li Hongzhang made by historiography community before great culture revolution actually become the foundation of great criticism to Li Hongzhang. At later stage of the great culture revolution, in the tide of criticism Li Hongzhang was made into a notorious historical figure full of hangman, slave of foreign master, Confucian apprentice and traitor, whose image was completely twisted. The history shows us that at the later stage of great culture revolution most of comments to Li Hongzhang such as 'hangman','respecting Confucius and Confucianism','slave of foreign master', and 'traitor' is unilateral and slandered words, which go too far from the matter of fact substance of historical study. |
