| Known as the fourth media, Internet is a brand new and effective form of reporting news. Online news not only has the characteristics of traditional news, but also takes the advantages of the Internet. It is not constrained by time and space and can be efficiently updated. Online news can also store larger amount of data than traditional news pattern. Because of these incomparable advantages, it has become an indispensable way for universities in China to advertise themselves and to communicate with the outside.This thesis aims to get a general view about the status of the translation quality of Chinese universities'online news by Si Xianzhu's translation quality assessment model as well as to discuss the use of some words and sentence patterns of foreign universities'online news to reduce potential deviations and shed some light on domestic universities'online news translation by analyzing collected data. It is hoped that the updated news on Chinese universities'English version website can better play its role of introduction and publicity as the"window"and"bridge"to the outside, so as to attract more international talents and students and to further promote the development of Chinese universities. Besides, this study also verifies the validity of Si Xianzhu's translation quality assessment model in the field of online news translation.The detailed analysis of 26 pieces of online news collected from 7 Chinese universities of"985"&"211"Project reveals that there are quite a few ideational deviations in translation, which affects the transmission of massage in news to some degree. Si Xianzhu's translation quality assessment model can be used in the field of news translation as long as no editing work has been done before translation. The parameters and procedures that set in the model are basically reasonable and scientific with the assessing of both ideational and interpersonal deviations and from the perspective of both microscopic and macroscopic. However, the model is still very subjective in the actual operating process, since the judgment of whether it is a deviation mainly relies on the assessor's own master level and keenness of both Chinese and English language. Moreover, no degrees are set to identify how serious each deviation is. The model still needs further improvement in the future.On the basis of identifying the ideational and interpersonal deviations through the analysis of both the original text and target text of collected domestic universities'online news, this thesis further analyze 28 pieces of news collected from 5 celebrated foreign universities, trying to summarize some linguistic features and similar word usage or expression to rectify the deviations found in the process of this research to some degree and provide some suggestions for the translation of Chinese universities'online news.Along with the development of network, how to efficiently use this media for propaganda and communication has become an increasingly important issue that needs to be further studied by domestic universities. More and more attention from experts and scholars is expected on the study of how to better translate domestic universities'online news, so as to promote the effect of communication and exchange. |
