Video Installation Art And Its Application In The Public Space

Under the tide of Modernism, art was liberated from the shackle, and with its unique concept and modeling method installation art had became new form of artistic expression. At the same time, with the rapid development of technology, the video technology which developed from photoelectric technology is continuously completed the leaps from technology to art. It realized the combination between installation art and video art by virtue of many artists'exploration and generated new form of artistic expression"video installation art". Along with the urbanization process, the communication between modern people was weakened under all kinds of pressure and the strengthening of self-consciousness. So that public space had become optimal place for free activities and social intercourse. Under this circumstance, people's cognition of public space had changed from political discourse to cultural construction, moreover, demand for works of art in public space had transferred from commemoration and education to daily estheticism, inclined to equally communication and interaction of artistic works. Video installation art agree with the artistic appeal of the public space,and weaken the inequality caused by differences in the level of knowledge. It effectively interpreted the common characteristic of public space,and became the art form which public willing to accept and appreciate.In this paper, the author try to inquire the emerging art form of video installation, attempting to discuss and hackle the origin, artistic appeal, form, and artistic characteristic of video installation art and modern public space art. In order to provide reference for the setting of video installation in the public space and the creative practice and theoretical research of the artist, in the course of discussion the author emphasis on the analysis of classical cases home and abroad, and investigate on the method and the effect which video installation art act on the public.
