Study On Grammaticaalization Of "下"

In modern Chinese ,the directional complements are special kind . They are flexible in meaning . they are remarkable for their frequency count and generalization of meaning.For long time ,they have been the hot topics in chinese grammer.The thesis begings with the discussion of the origin and evolution of meaning of"下"and the"V下"in method of gramaticalization. we explour the motivation of meaning of"下", at the same time ,we clarify the law of the grammaticalization about"V下"The thesis comprises 3 chapters. Through a comprehensive study of a large number of linguistic facts, chapter 1 summary the previous studies about"下",and point out the necessity and significance of further study. The second chapter discuss the meaning of"下"from the angle of grammaticalization process and explain the different meaning in different period by cognitive grammar. In the end we conclude that the meanings of predicate"下"can derive from the meaning of nominal"下". The last chapter discuss the origin and evolution of"V下"and describe the performance of"V下"in different period .we conclude the kind of"V下"depend on the meaning of"下"and"V", and we insist that the degree of grammaticalization varies with correlation between the meaning of"V"and"xia".In modern Chinese there are three"xia": Trend verbs/the directional complements/aspectual partical.
