Couplet Folk Narrative Research

Antithetical couplet is a well-known cultural existence. It is not only a Chinese unique literatural type with one word one sound,but also a special artistic form with Han's taste for appreciation of the beauty and cultural characteristic. It is cultural phenomenon closely associated with folk custom.It is one of the most important constiuent parts of cultural heritage. The thesis makes a study of antithetical couplet in folk narrative based on the relating theories of folkore and folk narratology. Firstly,it interprets the basic questions in folk narrative and explains the scopes,points of view,subjects and narrative features in the folk narrative that are quite different from those applied by the literatis. Secondly, it makes a classifying study of the antithetical couplet in folk narrative. On the one hand it makes an anlysis of narrative functions, artistic features and value of appreciation of beauty of the antithetical couplet in folk tales; on the other hand,it interprets cultural implications, historical values and folk values in the antithetical couplet in folk events. Thirdly, it makes a study on the relationship between the antithetical couplet in the folk narrative and folk culture, and then it explains the antithetical couplet is not only the product and supporter of Chinese culture but also the most important constituent part of Chinese culture. Finally,it confirms the special meanings and values of the antithetical couplet in the real life.
