| Translation plays an extremely vital role in propagandizing tourist attractions. Tremendous linguistic and cultural differences exist between the languages of Chinese and English, thus the translation from one to another sometimes gets rather tricky and subtle. Upon this problem, much has been probed in this respect.The rapid development of science and technology has enriched translating methods, including various translation aids. Among them, parallel text is one newly emerging form. The term came into being in the 1980s, but it has been primarily mentioned in textual studies and comparative linguistics, while hardly used in applied translation studies.This thesis is devoted to probing the using and functions of parallel text in tourism translation from Chinese to English, with its focus on specific application of parallel texts in tourism translation, especially the handling of some key words or phrases. Within this framework, the thesis examines the case of Wudang Mountain series brochure translation, advancing potentially available methods and strategies in making use of parallel texts to tackle some difficult problems during translation, and has revealed some relevant functions and advantages in adopting this form of text in tourism translation. |
