For a long time, the study of the literature in enemy-occupied area has not been much accounted of by the academic world. As a complementation of the literature in district ruled by Kuomintang and the literature in liberated area, the literature in enemy-occupied area, including the popular fictions in enemy-occupied area, have revealed the individual difficulty to survive and unique experiences of war and described the various expressions of the society and brief history of the spirit of people in enemy-occupied area without involving the significant subjects about the country, the society and the whole nation. In this respect, it is essential to explore the literary significance of popular fictions in enemy-occupied area.The thesis mainly studies the unique value of popular fictions in enemy-occupied area by discussing the subjects of them, based on the research of Qian Liqun in "Series of Literature in Enemy-occupied Area in China·Volume of Popular Fictions".The thesis contains three parts:Introduction, main text and epilogue.The introduction mainly describes the research status of literature in enemy-occupied area and popular literature and briefly indicates the important value of the study of popular fictions in enemy-occupied area.The main text contains four parts, which go as follows:The first chapter "Surrender and resistance:Creation situation under 'infrabar'" mainly discusses how the subjects of popular fictions in enemy-occupied area were formed. The social environment, based on which the popular fictions in enemy-occupied area was created, was the despairing cities dominated by foreign ruler. The authors who wandered between "to be silent" and "to be eruptible" were the main body in creation. Meanwhile, the expected field of view of the fictions was decided by the enslaved citizens. All of these factors together decided the details and the depth of the expression of the subjects of popular fictions in enemy-occupied area. The second chapter "Pathos and desire:different description of love" is directed at the subject of love which is extracted form the close reading of the texts of popular fictions in enemy-occupied area. The romantic fictions and the martial arts novels in enemy-occupied area were all about tragedy of love. The deep structure of this tragedy is believed to be the tragedy of the soul of enslaved citizens themselves. The despairing society forced the citizens to revel without limit as the meaning of life, however, desperation remain there after the desire is satisfied.The third chapter "Cities and villages:revelation of the "realities" of the society" is about the subject of society in popular fictions in enemy-occupied area. On one hand, the authors directly accused the barbarous rule of Japanese puppet. On the other hand, the different expressions of the developed city were also regarded as a subject of the society in popular fictions in enemy-occupied area. The ideas of people are full of infatuation to the "materials". Furthermore, large amount of folk custom and situation have been reserved in the popular fictions in enemy-occupied area where the authors have revealed to the readers a lot of pictures about the customs and situation with their exquisite description.The fourth chapter "Common and eternal:exploration of the two characters of human nature" mainly discuss the two dimensions of the subject about human nature in popular fictions in enemy-occupied area. For one thing the real human nature was explored and an individual "person" was descried. For another, the "eternal human nature" was explored from the daily life, which made the common life be actual acknowledged.The epilogue of the thesis is directed at the "survey and rethink" about the defects of the expression of the subjects in popular fictions in enemy-occupied area in order to attract the attention of people to the insufficient research of the literature in enemy-occupied area. Relatively impersonal estimates are given to the popular fictions in enemy-occupied area. It is desired that the popular fictions in enemy-occupied area can be truly "recovered"...
