At the beginning of the formation of Chinese translation aesthetics, its concepts are abstract. However, with the development of Chinese translation aesthetics, the concepts, classification and interpretation tend to be clear and rational. Compared with the abstractness of Chinese aesthetic thoughts, Chinese translation aesthetics is scientific and applicable. The discussion of attributes of aesthetic subject and aesthetic object and the dialectical relationship between them provides the study of translator's subjectivity with a new perspective.Taking Liu Miqing's theory of translation aesthetics as a framework, especially by using his terms on aesthetic subject, this study analyzes the subjective factor in the process of translation of Martin Eden to demonstrate how translators play their subjective roles and break through objective conditioning. In the process of analysis, comparison is mainly made between two translated versions and the original text is a reference to testify whether the subjectivity is reasonable or not and to explore the extent to which the different translation is affected by the subjectivity of the translator. The study attempts to reveal how aesthetic feeling and capability of translators bring influence on the effects of aesthetic representation, and give some suggestions about the use of colloquialism and literariness. This dissertation attempts to contribute the growing study on subjectivity of the translator from perspective of translation aesthetics. The study also attempts to assess Liu Miqing's theory of translation aesthetics in terms of its lack of specific guidance of translation approaches. For example, in the discussion of capability of the translator, Prof. Liu just interprets the capability of language and expression analysis, he does not give a clear criterion on what kind of analysis can be considered as conforming to translation aesthetics.
