| With the economic globalization, China is involved in more and more international communication and cooperation in business world. Since English has become the common language in international affairs, the society is in urgent need of inter-disciplinary talents with "English + Business" knowledge structure. Recently, many scholars home and abroad have conducted needs analysis of business English talents from the theoretical or practical levels, and proposed suggestions on the cultivation of language skills, knowledge structure, operational skills and comprehensive qualities of business English talents. However, China is vast in territory, and the economic development varies in different regions, so the economic market expects and demands the inter-disciplinary business English talents who are competent for the specific requirements of regional economic development.In order to shed light on the cultivation of competent business English talents for the regional economic development, the author refers to the requirements of business English talents stipulated in the authoritative syllabus in China and the Cultivation Plan for Talents in Guangxi Greater Beibu Economic Region, and take Yulin City as a case study, to research the requirements of knowledge structure of business English talents in the regional economic development. This thesis aims to answer the following questions:1. Can the knowledge structure of business English talents constructed on the basis of the requirements of the related syllabus meet the needs of regional economic development? 2. What are the specific requirements of knowledge structure of business English talents proposed by various industries in Yulin City? 3. What and how can a rationale knowledge structure be constructed for business English talents to meet the requirements of regional economic development? The research uses qualitative methods in its study on 24 enterprises and institutions and their 64 business English talents in Yulin City to explore the requirements of knowledge structure of business English talents in this region. This research consists of two parts. First, the author employed two questionnaires separately for the executive recruiters and business English talents from different positions of the employing units to search for their opinions and requirements of the knowledge structure of business English talents. Second, based on the results of the questionnaires, the author randomly drew one recruiter and one talent in each industry, together with the official responsible for Yulin's economic development and the executive of personnel market for interviews. The interviews with the 14 selected people aim to understand the overall and industrial requirements of knowledge structure of business English talents, and the interviewees'suggestions on the construction of knowledge structure.The research came up with the following findings:1. The current knowledge structure of researched business English talents can basically meet the requirements of their positions and the regional economic development, but there is space to improve.2. The business English talents in Yulin are mainly distributed in six industries, namely manufacturing, finance, service, tourism, English training and trade fair. The distinctive features of the six industries raise different specific requirements of knowledge structure, among which the requirements of manufacturing industry are the most clear.3. The "English + Business" knowledge structure can basically meet the needs of regional economic development, but the emphasis of these two disciplines of knowledge varies from one to another in different industries. Based on the findings in the research, the author offers suggestions to maintain the dominant position of English knowledge, broaden the spheres of business knowledge and tamp the practical operation knowledge, etc. |
