Dance is the combination of human instinct and biological characteristics. It is not only the manifestation of human nature and emotion, but also the crystallization of social life and art. Therefore, to implement and popularize dance education as an important means of aesthetic education in colleges and universities is critically import to building physical and psychological health and promoting quality education. At present, the setup of domestic dance electives is just started and the quantity of relative colleges is rather small. The corresponding theoretical studies are mostly concentrated in the exploratory stage, and most of the researchers come from the physical education. So dance elective courses can not play the strategic role of popularizing aesthetic education. Therefore the analysis of college dance elective situation and the corresponding response are both urgently significant.Dance electives is a part of the public university dance education, which is different from the professional dance classes in the object of education, teaching content and teaching evaluation. Currently there are many problems in elective courses such as insufficient attention, the difficulty to meet the needs of non-dance students, and shortage of teaching software and hardware inputs. The lack of quality of university teaching dance elective comes from the level of university faculty, student characteristics, educational media and educational evaluation, and many other causes. To promote the quality of education in colleges and universities, some measures on elective courses should be adopted, which include:changing concepts of education, strengthening the curriculum infrastructure; increasing the faculty building and training; focusing on overall quality of training; providing more choice;concerning about the learning process.
