In recent years, many psychologists pay more attention to the research of the relationshipbetween emotion and memory. Here, using ERP techique,item-method directed forgettingstudies are presented which investigate people's ability to intentionally forget affective wordsin different moods. To verifies the influence of emotion on directed forgetting and to explorethe processing mechanism of directed forgetting with emotional valence. So as to investigatethe effect of directed forgetting in differect moods.46college students were assigned randomly to three groups, including two experimentalgroups and a control group.480words (positive, negative and neutral) were selected as thevalenced stimuli in directed forgetting task. These were based primarily on the well-validatedevaluation of chinese emotional words. For the study phrase,240(80positive,80negative and80neutral) words were selected from an initial of480words.Recognition phrase present240(80positive,80negative and80neutral) new words. Thus,we investigate the behavioral andEEG results from the directed forgetting in three different moods. The results of this study are as follows.First, positive and neutral words can produce directed forgetting effect, but not in negativewords.Students in positive mood can produce directed forgetting effect, but not in the othertwo groups.Second,in the remember instruction of affective words, results suggested that thedifference of RT between positive mood group and control group was significant.it issignificant difference among valence stimili.Third,in study phase, the ERP data show that R-cued words cause more positive wavethan F-cued words on memory indicator appear after300ms.This finding is support theselective rehearsal theory.Fourth,in recognize phase,R-instruction and sucessfully remembered words cause morepositive wave than F-cued and sucessfully forgot words in400-630ms.The effect of valenceon directed forgetting is significant the negative words cause more positive wave than positive and neutral words in300-630ms.The finding suggested that negativity bias exists in theemotional directed forgetting.Fifth,in study phase, there are no interaction between word valence and moodconsistency. In recognize phase, the negative words cause more positive wave than positive andneutral words. The results suggest a significant MCM effect in700-900ms,it is mainlyapparent in parietal and occipital lobe.Sixth, there is a significant old/new effect in directed forgetting. The F-cued andsuccessfully forgot words cause more negative wave than correct rejection of new words inthe positive mood group which recognized the neutral words. The effect of MCM on old/neweffect during200-300is significant.in the consistent condition, the effect of old/new is clearmainly in frontal lobe and central areas.During the inconsistent condition, the effect ofold/new is clear mainly in prefrontal areas and frontal areas.
