Piano teaching needs the support of a lot of basic music theory, so it is impossible to discuss piano performance or teaching without basic music theory. The application of music theory in piano teaching empowers the students with the ability of analysis and grasping the works. The four pieces of composition that contained in the study of composition skills theory in many music theories, including forms, harmony, polyphony and orchestration, is the basis that makes up all music works. This defines we have to use the theories to analyze music works if we want to thoroughly understand and perform them well. This thesis explains the composing of music with composition skill theory and discusses how to apply the theories in piano teaching.This thesis is composed by four chapters which focus on the subject of how to combine the piano teaching and composition skill theories. The first chapter emphasizes the principle of structures and the types of musical forms, and explains the application of the musical forms in the piano teaching with specific cases of periods in the teaching practice. The second chapter introduces the development and evolution, reforming and characteristics of harmonics in different times, and describes the degree of harmony, color and strength with specific cases of periods in the teaching practice. The third chapter details the skills of polyphony, structure of polyphonic form, and the application of polyphony in the piano teaching by combining the harmony and musical forms. The fourth chapter mainly introduces the thinking of the Orchestration for an Orchestra, the inspiration of this thinking for the students to imagine the tone color, and then investigates the construction of the tone color by key touching and pedal-the most closely related two aspects of tone adjusting-by an explanation of performance techniques.
