Pa Village Porcelain kiln fired in the late Tang Dynasty and flourished at a northern folk kiln from Song Dynasty to Jin Dynasty. It is located in Pa Village of Yuzhou City in Henan province. The porcelain it mainly fires is characterized by black flower decoration on white ground. It is the most distinctive adornment form and a typical style of Cizhou Porcelain kiln type. Therefore, Pa Village Porcelain kiln is a characteristic branch of Cizhou Porcelain kiln type in Northern China. The academic circles have done abundant researches on the Cizhou Porcelain kiln type. With the excavation of the central site of it, the relevant researches have become gradually thorough. However, there are seldom any special researches on Pa Village Porcelain kiln. The decoration of black flower decoration on white ground is characterized by rich content and dense composition. It is not only influenced by folk aesthetic habit, but also by the commercial society and courtly arts in Song and Jin dynasty. The author first carried out the field work, visited the local villagers, and collected the specimens of ceramic chips. Then the author analyzed and organized the first-hand material, and meanwhile the author concluded, summarized and organized the previous researches and relevant knowledge. Based on the above research work, this thesis mainly analyzes the forming styles and laws of black flower decoration on white ground at Pa Village Porcelain kiln. Pa Village Porcelain kiln is to serve the lower-position people, and many contents of it derive from the production, their life, customs and beliefs. Thus in terms of exploring the decoration glamour of Pa Village Porcelain kiln, it is very necessary to probe into its decoration laws from the perspective of folk customs and culture.This thesis can be divided into five chapters. Chapter one is the introduction. It mainly introduces the research objective, background, status and main research content. Chapter two focuses on the organizing of the historical background, origin, development and influence of the Pa Village Porcelain kiln. Based on the collected large amounts of the specimens of ceramic chips, chapter three mainly analyzes the ornament laws of the black flower decoration on white ground, combined with the analysis from the angle of folk customs and culture. Chapter four analyzes the characteristics of the black flower decoration on white ground from the perspective of the aesthetic features of the coarse porcelain at folk kilns, reveals the unconstrained, bold, plain and natural style of Pa Village Porcelain kiln arts and the line drawing decorative effect due to its special decorative colors, and then probes into the beauty of its lining. Chapter five elaborates on the enlightenment the author gets form Pa Village Porcelain kiln in relation to the author's works.The Pa Village Porcelain kiln conveys the strong vitality of folk life and bears rich decorative content. The author's aim is to add new reference contents and new sources for the modern design by analyzing and summarizing these contents. We shouldn't only take advantage of the traditional decorative styles on the form level. The characteristics of the traditional Chinese graphic patterns lie in its powerful expressive force, and strong abstract and symbolic ability. It is necessary to recognize and explore the cultural thoughts behind these graphic patterns, and penetrate into the venation of the traditional culture. Only in this way, can our designs be like active water and trees with big roots.
