| Arthur Miller is one of the significant dramatists in United States in twentieth century, and he had a number of brilliant masterpieces, such as All My Sons, Death of a Salesman, The Crucible, A View From the Bridge, A Memory of Two Mondays, The Price, After the Fall, ect. Miller particularly focused on social functions and moral effects of a drama, and he preferred to reveal ethical and moral issues that should be faced by one in social survival. Meanwhile, he indulged in seek strong influences about each individual affected by social values and moralities. Thus, he was named 'American conscience'and'moral voice of American stages' respectfully.Arthur Miller's main works are used as research objects in this paper, research methods of literary and ethics are applied to analyze its ethical themes as well. In addition, the paper is to explore ethical issues and themes reflected by Miller's drama. Besides, the paper aims to analyzing artistic techniques he used to express his themes and analyzing the ethical topics'root.The paper is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, depend on Miller's works, ethical relationship and issues are investigated by three perspectives, people and ego, people and people, and people and society; in addition, miller's ethical ideal will be pointed out. The second chapter is to analyze artistic techniques applied by Miller in order to illustrate drama's ethical thesis, which include dramatism of the past and ethical structures. According to American traditional ethics, Miller's life and American social background, the third chapter is to explore the ethical theme's origin in Arthur miller's drama, which presents some real evidences on Miller drama's various ethical relationship and issues. |
