As we all know that educational quality is as important as the lifeline to a university. The undergraduate quality issue becomes one of the hottest topics nowadays. As the super academic and high-level scientific research institutions, Research University undertake the important task of training highly qualified talents. This thesis investigated the student engagement of undergraduate in Huazhong University of Science and Technology via questionnaires. This study select sophomore, junior and the fourth grades student as study samples, investigates their frequency and effort to study and other extracurricular activities, also include their results self- evaluations of last semester. The whole survey includes six parts as"the level of academic challenge","initiative cooperative learning","teacher-student interaction frequency","supportive campus environment","the richness of the educational experience"and"students results self-evaluation".The research results are: (1) student engagement is low ;( 2) students results self-evaluation score is relatively high; (3) insufficient teacher's teaching input; (4)invalidation of school management system.According to the results, the thesis gives quality-improve advices as follow: changing the traditional quality conception to"student-centered", establish a new quality assurance system; improving school management system, rebuild a sound teacher-student relationship; breaking the barriers between disciplines, construct research-based curriculum teaching and learning models; strengthen students'professional attainment, promote their vocational capacity; deepening university's internationalization, enrich students'educational experience.
