Afeter 100 years'development, great changes have taken place in modern volleyball in terms of the lineup and tactics. At present, a high level volleyball team is usually composed of ace spiker, blocker, tosser, wing spiker, and libero. Compared with the crystallized study on the characteristics of other positions, wing spiker is more likely to be subject to the team's tactics style as well as one's own conditions, therefore, there is a lot of variability in the selection and application of wing spiker.Considering the differences in duties and functions, present wing spikers can be categorized into powerful wing spiker (PWS) and comprehensive wing spiker (CWS). The PWS is characterized by great height, remarkable strength, outstanding capabilities of attacking and defending. However, PWS has relatively low performance in first pass, so that PWS does not involve in first passing. The CWS is characterized by all around skills, fast and flexibility. But CWS is short of attack ability. CWS is to enhance defence, increase moving attack, and make up ace spiker's weak attack ability. Without doubt both of the two types play important roles in deciding the results of modern volleyball games.Reviewing China's women volleyball developing history, the main stream is CWS and with quite a lot successful cases. However, with the impact of foreign teams and the decreasing competitive state of Chinese women's team, some professionals suggest China adopt PWS. The discussion of this topic has never ceased, however, it is only hovered in theoretical aspect. After Beijing Olympic Games, Cai Bin was assigned coach of Chinese Women's Volleyball Team. The major change he made was adjusting Wang Yimei to wing spiker, which is the biggest variability and at the same time a change worth of expecting. Wang Yimei played in 2009 World Women's Volleyball Grand Prize Tournament, which provides this paper with visual research data.Through statistics from important games in recent three years, this paper compares technical and nontechnical factors between Chinese women's team and other foreign strong teams. The author expects to find out the advantages and disadvantages of China's wing spiker. This paper is to compare and analyze statistics drawn from important matches in which Wang Yimei played as ace spiker and wing spiker respectively so that factual evidence can be provided on whether China should use PWS or CWS.
