In recent years, China is in drastic social transition, the consumer presents a wide range of features. In Quanzhou, Jinjiang City, there is a problem can not be ignored- yong people spend lots of money in marriage consumption.In such a poor consumer environment, the social environment has a huge influence. Many families over-consumed beyond tthe ability during the marriage, some of them even borrowed money for marriage consumption, leading young people and the family to be in debt after marriage, some young people can not get married because they can not afford the high bride price or dowry. It is getting worse while the marriage is more and more materalied and symbolized. The family as the smallest organizational unit of social existence, consumption is the essential process of getting married. Therefore, study the consumption of marriage could help us to learn more about it and provide some basis for family research.Firstly, I review the studies of marriage consuption made by domestic and foreign scholars. Found that:(1) The study focused on the theory, not much systematic empirical research. (2) Study focused mostly on the bride price paid in the marriage, less on dowry. (3) Study focused on the change of rural youth's marriage consumption from the perspective of social change since the new China has establised. Domestic and foreign scholars studied much less about the reasons behind the high consumption of marriage, such as the construction of identity, the purpose of consumption marriage, marriage consumer motivation. In this paper, I conducted a systematic case study about rural marriage high consumption from consumption of marriage, theory about marriage, the effect of high consumption of marriage. Found that:(1) During the marriage in village, people spend much money in marriage consumption, expecially the consumption of bride-price and dowry. (2) The high consumption was influenced by Internal factors and external factors. (3) High consumption of marriage not only have an impact on individuals and their families, but also have impact on the concept of marriage in social environment.Study found that deeper reasons of high consumption of marriage are getting the indentity through the fact of consumption with the rural economic development and improvement of living standards of farmers. Identity includes self-sense and group belonging. Study found that Study found that affluent groups to get the sense of self through consumption and poor people consume to get the sense of group belonging.This paper analysis the phenomenon of high married consumption with socilolgical perspctive and sociolgical theory. Concluded that the main consumer psychology of high consumption in wedding in current society is to show off and comparisons. But also concluded that the consumer attitudes are more and more reasonable. So, this study hopes to reveal the process of high consumption of marriage unreasonable consumer attitudes, to promote scientific and rational concept of consumption, it will take major significance in optimize the consumption structure in rural areas, and promote social harmony in rural areas.
