Ning Dong Energy and Chemical Engineering Base is located in the east of Ningxiaprovince, which is belong to the semi-arid-region. The construction of the base needs thesupport of large amounts of water resources. This paper is used to conduct a comparativeevaluation of groundwater resources in Yanchi and Taole districts, which respectively done bywater balance method and numerical simulation method. On the base of data collection, the hydrogeological conditions and groundwatercirculation characteristics were analysed. By the establishment of water balance equation, thispaper calculated the equilibrium elements. The constraint condition is do not sacrifice theecological water requirement, and the safe yield of interior region in Yanchi is0.37x10~8m~3/a.The safe yield is consist of the evaporation and discharge from groundwater to the lake, and the former one is the primary composition, taking up84%.This paper first established the hydrogeological generalized model in Taole region, andthen the3D groundwater steady flow model with three layers was built through ProcessingModflow. The model was identified by the actual measurement data of water lavel. Twopumping schemes were developed, including exploiting on platform and alongside the river. The variation of groundwater level and the development of drawdown cone with differentyield could be predicted respectively. The results calculated from the model show that, inTaole district, if the platform exploiting is adopted, the maximum yield was219×10~4m~3/a,and the deep of the drawdown cone should not exceed50m. And if groundwater is pumpedalongside the river, the maximum yield was730×10~4m~3/a, and the deep of the drawdowncone should not exceed80m. The later scheme would induce the confined water level dropby3.8m in Gaoren water source region, producing little adverse effect. The safe yield inTaole is consist of the evaporation, recession of base flow and leakage increasement of theYellow River, of which the evaporation is the primary composition, taking up more than85%.This paper carried out a comparative analysis of groundwater resources from the viewsof groundwater circulation characteristics, groundwater resource composition, source of yieldand constraint condition etc.
