Red bed slope vegetation restoration has been more than10years, but the slope vegetation long-term stability judgment or evaluation method is not mature. It is necessary to study the characteristics of plant community status, actively construct the red bed slope plant community long-term stability evaluation system, evaluate red layer of highway, railway slope vegetation restoration situation. Finding out the deficiency are play an important role in the practice.Firstly, according to plant community stability theory, we analyze the characteristics of plant communities and put forward the evaluation of red layer of plant community on the theoretical basis and method. Then, relevant evaluation principles and methods are summarized. Using the combination of the analytic hierarchy process and the comprehensive evaluation index are applied to evaluate the degree of stability of plant community.Secondly, with the analysis of the characteristics of plant community in red beds area foundation,16indicators from3aspects are put forward.These indicators are community, community type, coverage, plant community vertical structure richness, root weight, community vernacular, slope direction, soil fertility, soil effective moisture, slope, soil thickness, annual average temperature, annual precipitation, construction quality, earthquake, extreme drought disaster. They constitute the system of indicators to reflect the long-term stability of plant community. Application of analytic hierarchy process can get the weight of each index value. Evaluation model can be established by the adoption of the comprehensive evaluation index method. According to the grade classification of plant communities, we can make effect on the stability of the evaluation results.Finally, the evaluation model is applied to the K56+220-K56+400of Cheng-Nan highway and the DIK51+45C~DIK51+980of Yu-Huai railway in engineering practice. The respective evaluation results prove the rationality of the evaluation model. From the index weight has been elected to the evaluation result, we can choose the3key indicators which are important to the evaluation results. The key indicators are useful for the engineering design and construction of the red layer slope protection.
