Study On The Main Influencing Factors Of The Transparency About Jadeite Jade In Burma

The researches about the jadeite jade, the king of the jade, have been referred to many faces. Through observing the polarized microstructures of the "glass" jadeite jade,"ice" jadeite jade and the "sticky rice" jadeite jade, we can see that there is no direct relationship between the grain size and the transparency. So we will continue to do some researches about the relationship between jadeite jade structure and its transparency.Through watching the polarized microstructures of the "wax gourd" jadeite jade,"ice-sticky rice" jadeite jade and the "porcelain" jadeite jade samples, we can conclude that the size of the jadeite in "porcelain" jadeite jade is smaller than the "wax gourd" and "ice-sticky rice" jadeite jade. So, the size of the jadeite grain is not the direct influencing factor. According to X-ray rock group analysis we can conclude if the jadeite grain has the directivity or not. We do this research on the "wax gourd"," ice-sticky rice" and "porcelain" jadeite jade samples then we conclude that there are no obvious directions about the different transparent jadeite jades, so there is no benefice relationship between the grain’s directions and the jadeite jade transparency; Through watching the microstructure of the jadeite jades which include two or more different transparency parts, we can see that the existence of the impurities in the low transparent parts of the jadeite have three forms, that is internal cleaves in the jadeite grains, the cracks between the jadeite grains and the small cracks. Internal opaque iron-bearing materials are the fundamental causes that leading to the low transparency. In addition to, through watching the fluorescence by DiamondView, we can see that the intensity of the fluorescence has obvious differences between the two different transparency parts, that is, the lower of the transparency, the higher of the fluorescence intensity, and in terms of the principle on the fluorescence we proved that the low transparent parts include other impurities.Watching and studying the jadeite jade’s "glimmering" phenomenon, we preliminary conclude that there is no obvious relationship between jadeite jade’s "glimmering" phenomenon and internal microscopic structure aligned directionally, and we further prove that this inference is right through watching the films by polarized microscope and the structure of the fracture by scanning electron microscopy. Through optical phenomena and physical optics research, we preliminary determinate that the mechanism about "glimmering" is refraction and total internal reflection of the light; And the cutting of high refractive index cabochon gems demonstrates that this mechanism is reasonable again. In addition to, in terms of light principle and related charts on geometric optical path, we can see that the decisive factors about the "glimmering" jadeite jade are refractive index, surface radian and the strength of transparency. And in the same condition, the "glimmering" phenomenon of double convex cabochon gems is more obvious than that of single convex cabochon gems.
