With the continuous development of science and technology, manual drillingplatform of petroleum machinery industry has lagged behind and gradually left thehistory. In order to satisfy increasingly high requirements of drilling machineryautomation level, the operating system of automated drill pipe appears and has beenwidely applied. In China’s used deep drilling rigs there are obvious disadvantages insending a drill pipe: the ramp, catwalk and discharge racks of the drill pipe arerelatively independent parts, so it’s not suitable for frequent disassembly, movingand transportation, and the rig has no the function that automatically sends the drillpipe; and in the work process because of friction, the protection degree of drillingtools is not enough and there are security risks. So to design an automatic catwalkfor passing the drill pipes is necessary.The starting point of this topic is here, we have made a detailed summary of thecatwalk device and its application status in the domestic and international, had asystematic understanding for the shortcomings of existing rig transmission device,and introduced development trends of the simulation modeling research in themachinery industry, so the research significance has been demonstrated andconsolidated. Then according to the current research and the demand, in view of theexistence flaw, the subject specific content and research routes and the final macroexamination goal are established.On the basis of summing up the research and application of the current catwalkin the domestic and international, for the shortcomings of existing products,according to intelligent, durable, safe, simple, reasonable, human nature and cost-saving concepts, we clear the design purposes of full hydraulic automaticcatwalk for deep drilling rig, and determine the design ideas. And according torelevant design requirements, we start to carry out the design of full hydraulicautomatic catwalk for deep drilling rig and have completed program of itscomposition and structure. According to the function,the structure is decomposedinto two parts-hydraulic driving systems and mechanical transmission。The mainfunctional structure and component parts are determined, the working principle andprocess are introduced.The overall design of full hydraulic automatic catwalk for deep drilling rig onlyhas provided the initial design concept and need be structural materialized andimplemented in the drawings by mechanical design software, by repeatedlymodifying to realize the design concept of the structure and shape. AutoCAD is verygood at this. Using its intuitive tool in two-dimensional and three-dimensionalenvironment, we can better explore, enrich and improve the design concept, these areall necessary for catwalk design. And it can achieve simulate assembly and be usedas a sketch of the three-dimensional modeling, and its drawing speed is fast,changing figure is easy, printing and copying is also very convenient, so it can justbe used as design aid. This topic will complete the auxiliary work of the designthrough these advantages.2D-model of full hydraulic automatic catwalk for deep drilling rig drawn byAutoCAD is shown in the drawings as the initial design ideas. It has a certainreference value and its precise degree is high, but its three-dimensional sense andvividness is relatively poor, and motion simulation and stress analysis can’t be done,so the establishment of three-dimensional model of full hydraulic automatic catwalkis necessary. In this topic we have solved the difficulties of the physical design in thetraditional method by Solidworks software, and according to the mechanicalmodeling steps, accurately completed the Catwalk Model. This has achieved three-dimensional model of the structural components and made themparameterization. Through reasonable connection of all parts, the overall design ofthe catwalk is materialized and its main three-dimensional structure is visualized.This makes design gain Intelligence, visualization. The modeling results and3D-model can also be used as input files of motion simulation.3D modeling andmotion simulation is the core part of this topic.The3D modeling of full hydraulic automatic catwalk for deep drilling rig basedon Solidworks, has made the overall design3D modeling, but its rationality andfeasibility need to be verified through motion simulation of ADAMS. This paperintroduces the features and the role in motion simulation of ADAMS software andsettings of the simulation environment, and according correct steps of the simulationanalysis, the simulation has been achieved and its result has been gained successfully.These has proved our design reasonable.In China, the comprehensive study and design about full hydraulic automaticcatwalk for deep drilling rig has not done now. In this issue, the design concept isadvanced, the design idea is clear, the design method is systematic and practical, andthe design results is good and feasible, so the design must fill in the blanks of theresearch areas, and its innovative significance is needless to say. If the design is putinto production, the cost of drilling and the manual work intensity must be reducedsignificantly, security risks must be effectively eliminated, drilling cycle must beshortened, and HSE concept is implemented. This must help to raise the design levelof China’s oil drilling transfer equipment.
