Travel information of urban residents is an important reference for urbanplanning, traffic management and residents’ behavior research. The artificialmethod of investigation on residents travel is a heavy burden on respondents. Thereis also the survey accuracy and costly problem in it. So it could not meet the needsof rapid development of urbanization process. With the development of wirelesscommunication technology, GIS technology, Internet technology, mobile phonesand portable GPS (Global Positioning System) device has been popularized.Through these devices we can quickly locate and record space location, access tothe mass trajectory of travel. In order to extract feature information of trips, the research on trajectory datamining method has important practical significance. Based on time geography andgeographic information systems, the GIS environment for the trajectory datamining is established in this paper, to carry out the processing of trajectory dataand analysis residents travel information. It particularly focuses on some aspects asfollows. The main contents of this article are as follows.Firstly, designed a spatio-temporal data model for storing travelers’ trajectorydata and implemented in Oracle database.Secondly, established an analyzing and representing environment for offeringthe basic function of trajectory data mining by using C#and ArcGIS Engine.Thirdly, proposed a points merging algorithm on speed form the base of tripidentification. Then compared the results with the activity diary of volunteers, andevaluated the effects.Fourthly, mined information from large GPS tracking data, such as information ofresidence, daily schedule and spatial characteristics of behavior. Then displayed theresults in3-D GIS environment. The results indicate that study aspects above can become a whole flow formining trajectory data of urban travelers. The mining method was validated that it iseffective to extract the information and analyze the characteristic of trip.
