Qiantang River is the largest one in Zhejiang Province. The Hangzhou Bay downstream of it is flared and connects with the East China Sea. So it is a typical tidal estuary. While the spectacular tidal bore brings people abundant tourism resources, it also causes variety of disasters such as salt water intrusion and pollutant dispersion etc, which directly effects the safety of life and production water. Therefore it is greatly important to study the flow field of Qiantang bore for correctly taking preventive measures to ensure water safety. The Wenyan to Cangqian river is studed and a three-dimensional geometric model is built according to the measured terrain data. While taking upstream runoff and downstream waterlevel as the boundary conditions, a three-dimensional numerical simulation of tidal bore is carried out with VOF model. By tracking the waterlevel of specified stations, it shows that numerical results agree well with the measured data and actual flow field, which means the model can work well in capturing the tidal bore in computational area.Numerical simulations with different conditions are carried out, and the flow field each shows three-dimensional characteristics, effected by local bed. Also the affection of runoff and tide on flow field is summarized.
