Interactivity is the greatest feature of virtual geographical environment compared withthe traditional two-dimensional map. Prensent3D interaction with virtual geographicenvironment (VGE) is based on geometric model; however, virtual interactive objects containnot only the geometric information, rather than a wealth of semantic information. Cognitivepsychology holds the idea that knowledge exists not only in human’s minds, but also in theobject of the outer world. One apperceives and cognizes the world by the combination of thetwo kinds of knowledge. This theory shows an important point for the design ofhuman-computer interaction. Semantic information in VGE is a type of interactive knowledge,which can achieve a natural and efficient human-computer interaction. Based on the analysisof literature at home and abroad, this paper brings semantic information into thethree-dimensional interactivity of VGE, achives the technology of semantic-based3Dinteractive. The main contents of the thesis are as follows:1. From the view of scientific and technology research, this thesis describes thebackground and signaficance, summarizes the research status on sematics and virtual sceneeditor, then presents the idea that sematics-based3D interactive technology would improve theefficiency of human-computer interaction and achieve more complex interactive task.2. The thesis summarizes elementary theoretics about semantics-based3D interaction inVGE. The thesis fisrt depicts the conception of VGE, and explains some issues in present3Dinteraction, discribes classes and hiberarchy of3D interaction, then discusses the meanings ofsemantics and ontology, focus on the advantages and disadvantages of XML and CityGML, aswell as their’s inspiration to describe semantics information in VGE. The relation betweensemantics and ontology is dicussed as well.3. Semantics and its expression are researched. The thesis first discusses the compositionof semantic information in VGE, which is composed by static semantics and dynamicsemantics, the former is described by interactive object and latter is described by interactiveinformation. Then the thesis study the formalization of semantics information, bring forward amethod to characterize semantics with XML&OWL, and describes some special semanticsinformantion.4. This thesis researches semantcis-based3D interactive technology, studies thetechnology of travel and select&manipulation. By the employment of semantics, nature andefficient human-computer interact and the syncretization of interact technologies could be achieved.5. The thesis designs a semantic-based3D interactive prototype system in VGE,describes the terrain editing objects and the relationship between them, specifies a prototypeterrain edit framework based on semantic, and researches the key technology in the process ofterrain editing. Some picture of prototype system are brought forth in the thesis.
