Goaf formed by coal mining, many unknown zones caused by illegal mining,private disordered mining and many enterprises’ illegal cross-border mining, andunknown cavity have brought great hidden troubles to the mine safety production andpeople’s life property safety. So finding out the geographic information of mined-outareas in engineering construction and guarantee mine production and people’sproperty safety has become an important topic.The exploration method of using natural source surface wave information doesnot damage the observation environment, and there are no special requirements, and ithas the characteristics of convenient, quick and low cost. In people’s production andliving, the surface wave exploration method combined with other detection means hasgreat advantages in carrying out underground exploration, especially in solving theproblems of the structure of coal mined-out areas and so on.At first, this paper emphatically discussed the principle and characteristics of thenatural source surface wave exploration, put forward the frontier spatialautocorrelation observation technology, briefly introduced the frequency wavenumber method, and compared the two methods. We discussed the pretreatment ofnatural source surface wave acquisition signals, digital filtering and smoothingtechnology of acquisition data and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of thetechnology applied in the coal goaf exploration.
