Along with the success of the Cheng-E Project, China obtained greatachievements in moon and spatial environment detection, which improved ourcountry’s study of the moon. China increased the speed of the study of the dataacquired by Chang-E lunar exploration, which enhances funding for domesticresearch organizations and individuals. Moon crater distribution characteristics hasbeen studied worldwide, but have not used color overlapping method to display thegeometry features in digital moon platform. Although there has been some research onthe lunar craters, there are various reasons making the study of distributioncharacteristics of lunar craters reaches a plateau stage.This article uses the six-digit decimal classification method and coloroverlapping theory to make the research. Six-digit means: roundness, complexityinside crater, crater lip, sharpness,diameter size and depth. In order to categorize anddefine the levels for lunar craters, Six-digit is used to describe lunar craterquantitatively and qualitatively. The color overlapping theory uses direct approach todisplay objects, which uses three hues to present three factors. Hue combination graphis used to study the distribution pattern and the evolution process of lunar carters,which is of great significance and practical value. Three-primary color synthesizegraph shows the distribution of the three characteristics, and overlooks the regionaldetails, therefore highlight the crater distribution in the studied area. This article usesred, green and blue to represent roundness, depth and crater lip respectively. Red,green, blue and the two levels of chroma are used to represent the status of the factorsof lunar crater, and the complexity inside cater is used to represent lunar crater. The color difference in the study area illustrates the change about lunar crater distributionand the change of major factor of lunar carters. Flexible colors can highlight thecharacteristics that cannot be displayed by traditional approach. The change of themajor characteristics of lunar crater can be told for the change of colors, which in turnexplains the change of the lunar geological structure and evolution process.According to the above research contents, the innovative points andachievements includes:(1) Put forward a study method of the lunar crater distribution characteristics throughcolor overlapping theory.(2) The change of the primary and secondary factors of lunar crater has strong relationwith its distribution characteristics, the most direct method to show the changes offactors of lunar craters is using the change of color combination graph.
